An overview of class grades
-
The main goal of this course if for you to learn to perform in an English speaking classroom, because some of your major classes may be taught in English. However, grades are also a very important aspect of the course as well. In order to get an "A+" in the course, you need to exceed all expectations and do an outstanding job on assignments, exams, projects and participation. It is harder to get an "F" in the course than it is to get an "A."
Grades are calculated as follows:
- Attendance, Participation, and Homework 15%
- Mid-Term Exam 20%
- Mid-Term Interview 10%
- Final Presentation 20%
- Forum Postings 10%
- Final Exam 25%
Attendance: Attendance is a very important part of this course. See the "Attendance Policy" section for more details.
Participation: Participation means that you are present in class (so it is related to attendance); have a positive attitude; ask questions; respond to questions; and have active, lively, discussions with partners during activities.
Presentation: There is one presentation in this class. You may do it by yourelf or in a group. You must teach the instructor how to do something. In order to make the presentation easier to prepare and complete, I have divided it into several small assignments. For more information, see the "Exams & Presentation" section.
Exams: There are two major exams in the course: the midterm exam and the final exam. You must write both exams in order to pass this course. For more information, see the "Exams & Presentation" section.
Forum Postings: You will be asked to write something on the online conversation forums. The topics will be related to things we talk about during class (e.g. introductions, movies, sports and games. . .). You are required to make a minimum of three major forum postings. Answering other people's postings is strongly encouraged.
