- Exams, Interview, and Presentation
Midterm Exam (20%): Week 8 on Monday, October 24th
Interview (10%): Week 9 on Monday, October 31stFinal Presentation: At the end of the semester. Exact day varies by group. (To make it easier to prepare and perform, the presentation is broken into several parts. All parts together are 20% of course grade)
Final Exam: Week 14 on Wednesday, December 7th (30% of course grade)

Mid-term exam information MT Exam Time & Place: Exams take place in the normal classroom (R424) at the normal class time.
Length of MT Exam: 1 hour and 50 minutes
Example exam: An example exam will be available on Classnet, so you will be familiar with the style of the mid-term exam.MT Exam Feedback: You will receive your exam back within two weeks. Common mistakes will be explained. You may look at the exam to check your mistakes. You can also check your exam score online.
Parts of the exam:
PART I:
Part I will cover the following units from the textbook:
Unit 21: The Guinness Book
Unit 17: Spielberg's Movie Legacy
Unit 19: Divination
Unit 10: Ideas About Beauty
These questions will be multiple choice.
Part I will also include questions about:
-sports and games expressions
-Friends expressions and vocabulary (from the sitcom that we studied).
These questions will be matching and fill in the blanks.
PART II
This section will include an essay that we have not studied in class. You will be asked to read it and analyze it. Short-answer questions about thesis statements, topic sentences, and important details will be included. You will also write a short summary of the essay. This summary should be in the same style that we practiced in class.

Interview & Presentation
Interview: The interview will be a one on one conversation with the instructor. You will talk about movies. Remember to practice the vocabulary expressions, and language patterns that are taught in class. For more information, check interview.pdf file on Classnet.
Presentation: By yourself or in a group (your choice), you will perform a demonstration presentation for your instructor, teaching him how to do something. In order to make the presentation easier to prepare and complete, I have divided it into several small assignments. Normally you will spend approximately five minutes teaching, and approximately five minutes helping the instructor to complete the task himself. Your instructor will perform an example presentation in Week 2. During your presentation you should practice the language patterns and expressions that were taught during the semester. PART I:
Part I will be multiple choice and will cover the following units from the textbook:
Unit 6: Understanding Introverts
Unit 12: The Academic Gender Gap
Unit 18: Models and Eating Disorders
Unit 4 The Reliability of Witnesses
You cannot use a dictionary for Part I.
PART II:
This section will include the complete essay, Freud and the Meaning of Dreams (Unit 3). You will be asked some short answer questions about this essay. You can use a dictionary for Part II. Check the attached file for PowerPoint slides (in PDF format) to help you with this section. These PowerPoint slides will not be available on the exam of course.
Part III:
This section will include an essay that we have not studied in class. You will be asked to read it and analyze it. Short-answer questions about thesis statements, topic sentences, and important details will be included. You will also write a short summary of the essay. This summary should be in the same style that we practiced in class.
